Catalogue has extensive annotation for 119 works; From an auction held on March 6, 1930 at Lansdowne House in London, England. Essay summarizing the origins of the collection notes that it was considered one of the most beautiful and valuable in England. Some of the marbles were derived from excavations in 1769 near the Roman site of Hadrian's Tiburtine villa, on a spot known as the Pantanello. Beautiful engravings show many of the marbles for sale, including: a basalt figure of an Egyptian; statues and reliefs of Marcus Aurelius, Hermes, Artemis, Athene, Homer; a marble throne; sepulchral monuments; and Sleeping Nymph by Canova. The essay contains a bibliography of published works which enumerate the most important works in the collection.
