The Dukes of Urbino demonstrated a particular interest in gardens, a fundamental space for court life and aesthetics, designing splendid and diverse outdoor spaces in each of their urban and suburban residences. This contribution will provide a better understanding of the development of a cultural aspect that placed the Duchy of Urbino on a par with other Renaissance Italian courts in this area as well. It will be appreciated that the development of the garden concept is closely linked to the diverse personalities of the dukes, but also of the duchesses who, as in the cases of Leonora Gonzaga and Lucrezia d'Este, brought to these places the experience of other cities. This volume aims to accompany the reader in the discovery of ducal gardens that no longer exist, such as those of some lost villas in Pesaro or the garden of Santa Lucia in Urbino, but also to draw attention to still accessible features such as the hanging garden of the Ducal Palace in Urbino and the gardens of the Imperiale and Villa Miralfiore in Pesaro. Exhibition: Palazzo Ducale, Urbino, Italy (28.03. - 10.06.2018).
