Boston: Munroe and Francis. Hardcover. A twelve volume set of bound chronological issues of The Antheneum, which ran from 1817 - 1831. Each volume is bound in three-quarter leather with green marble wraps. Two columns of text per page. Volume two is 488 pages; Volume three is 488 pages; Volume five is 496 pages; volume six is 488 pages; volume seven is 585 pages; volume seven is 492 pages; volume ten is 488 pages; volume eleven is 488 pages; volume twelve is 488, 37 pages. G+: Each volume's leather is dry and flaking, with some lift around the spine edges and wear to the edges and corners. Small sections of board showing. Fading to the wraps. Rubbing to the wraps. Each volume has a plate on the front pasted end page, and an ink notation of the previous owner's name on the title page. All volumes have tanning pages and some foxing. The only volumes that have plates remaining on their spines are volume seven, eight, nine, and eleven. Volume two's spine is cracked, with the leather flaking off along the edges and in the lower middle of the spine. Volume three is missing all the outer leather of the spine. Volume five has a detached cover and front free end page. Volume six also has a detached but present front cover. The spine is missing leather over about a fourth of it. Volume seven's cover is detached but present, and it is missing its front free end page. Crack to the leather along the back edge of the spine. Volume eight has a loose front free end page. Volume nine has a crack along each side of the spine. Volume eleven has peeling and flaking to the leather over the spine. Some lift to the leather. The front cover is detached but present. The back cover is hanging on by a thread. The front free end page and first (blank) page are loose but laid in. Volume twelve is missing the leather over the spine. There is a crack up the center of the spine. The front and back covers are detached but present. The front and back free end pages are loose but inlaid. Item #213753
