Text entirely in French. Maximilien I was Emperor of the Burgundian Netherlands, beginning in 1477. He was a passionate lover of tapestries and had a series of twelve made with hunting images (chasses = the hunt); one for each month of the year. This is a remarkable book with terrific large, folded plates of each of the twelve tapestries and a substantial introduction explaining each one. From the collection of the Louvre. Although not in color, the b/w provides depth and detail.
