A catalogue of 87 items; each nicely annotated. "Chinese ceramics from Chicago Collections developed from a desire to explore the vast porcelain and pottery holdings of both public and private Chicago-area collections. Of primary interest were ceramic works that had not been previously published or exhibited. The need to further focus the exhibition provided an additional constraint; it was decided that useful wares--bowls, plates, ewers, vases, incense burners and other objects that were utilitarian in nature--would be sought. With the criteria established, hundreds of vessels were examined and studies, resulting in a final selection of eighty-seven works that demonstrate the richness and beauty of Chinese ceramics and the variety of shapes, glazes and decorations from the Neolithic period through the early twentieth century.--Foreword."
