Notes: July 2 Issue first edition is 8 pp. 2nd and 3rfd edition (combined) are also 8 pp. and details the assassination attempt upon Garfield and his condition. These two issues are slightly smaller in format than usual. This is standard for the lengthier Saturday issues throughout the volume. No Sunday issues typically, except for July 3 and news on Garfield. Supplement (one sheet both sides printed) for August 1, smaller format). The Saturday August 13 Saturday issues (8 pp) is the same size as all other daily issues. Aug. 20 is smaller, August 27 is larger. Sept 10 is larger. Entire front page of Sept. 19 issue devoted to the arrest of a man, A.S. Niles, for the 2-year old murder of James Singleton. This issue also includes a 2-page, single-sheet Supplement. The next issue is an 8-column Death issue for the assassinated President Garfield, who had died the previous evening at 1030 PM East Coast time. All pages of this issue have the thick black column separator lines. The Sept. 22 issue also has a 2-page, single-sheet Supplement, as does the Sept. 23 issue. The entire issue of Sept. 26 has mourning-thickness black column ruling. The next day's issue, with many details of the burying of Garfield, is printed on smaller sheets (like most of the Saturday issues) and is 8-pages in length. Few areas of ancient repairs in the mid-October issues. The quality of the paper also changes around mid-October and the sheets exhibit more brittleness and fragility. Nov. 12 Saturday issue is printed on large sheets. Paper texture seems to revert with the Nov. 17 issue. Much detail of Guiteau assassination trial in the Saturday No. 19 issue. Nov. 29 is a 6-page issue, with the Supplement printed on smaller sheet. Saturday Dec. 3 issue printed on larger sheets. Dec. 7 issue is a 6-page edition with Supplement printed on larger sheet. Saturday Dec. 10 issue printed on larger sheets. Dec. 13 issue is 6-pages with large-sheet Supplement. Dec. 19 issue missing minute amount of text in 2 columns at base due to broken paper.Dec. 20 issue is 6-pages with Supplement printed on smaller sheet. Saturday Dec. 24 issue printed on larger sheets, and has a story titled "Mea Culpa" written especially for this issue by Will S. Green on front page. Dec. 27 issue has a smaller-format Supplement. The final issue of the year, Saturday Dec. 31 appears to be only 4-pages (2 sheets) and is printed on regular-sized sheets.
