Sir Charles Thomas Newton (1816-1894) was a British archaeologist and scholar, remembered for his excavation of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus in modern day Turkey. Considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, it is meticulously depicted here in full-page tinted lithographs and engravings, as well as the excavations from Cnidus and Branchidae. (Freeman's) The texty volumes are equally as rare as the (Missing from this set) Atlas volume. Part 2 of this text was printed in 1863 and is here present in a matching binding to Part 1.
