At the time this book was printed, only 35 paintings by Georges De La Tour were known to exist, and he had just had his first full-scale exhibition in France a year before or so. This book (is, was) catalogue raisonné, summary of documents, index of collections, index of names. A complete edition of the paintings. By the time of the 1996 exhibition in Washington, it does not appear that many more had come to light, since it only had 33 paintings by him.
