"The orignials of these pictures are painted on paper and silk in the water-colour technique customary only in China. They form part of The Lin Shih-Lu Collection at Foochow, and are reproduced with the permission of their owner, all except No. 8 appearing for the first time. The Chinse title was written by Professor Lin Chun: 'From the Shih-Lu Collection.' The red stamp on the third page is the stamp of the Lin family of Foochow: 'The Descendants of The Yin House.' This book was awarded a prize at the 1944 Swiss Book Exhibitino for the Artistic Excellence of its Production."
