The plan of the (second) RMS Mauretania, launched on 28 July 1938 at the Cammell Laird yard in Birkenhead, England and completed in May 1939. She was the first ship built for the newly formed Cunard White Star company following the merger in April 1934 of the Cunard and White Star Line. These plans include the Sun Deck, Promenade Deck (with library, writing room, smoking room, lounge, grand hall, etc.), the Main Deck (accommodations, Purser's Office, Beauty Salon, Barber Shop), the A Deck (accommodations), and the B, E, and Sports Decks. The two pencil notations on the A-Deck plan are prices for different cabins. Also included is a brief history of this RMS Mauretania and a stunning bw image of her at sea. This particular brochure was published in anticipation of the ship's first voyage as a passenger ship, after her re-fit from being used as a troop ship. During the Second World War she travelled 540,000 miles in her much-storied adventures and carried over 340,000 troops During this time, on one epic voyage, shealso established a speed record for the crossing time from Fremantle, Australia to Durban, South Africa. This brochure is a wonderful piece of maritime/Cunard, Mauretania history for any collector. Scarce.
