Original yellow spine bound in at back. Extra booklet, "Etnografiske Bemaerkninger til Margrethe Hald: "Olddanske Tekstiler" (1950) by Kaj Birket-Smith laid in. Heavy (6 lbs. / 2.75 kilos) and will require extra postage. Original covers/contents VG, clean, bright, and tight with no lib. marks. General wear to buckram covers. Binding beginning to split at front gutter, but original contents unaffected. Inscribed to "J.... Bird a present from the author 1952." Item #154128

Text in Danish with English summary. Chapters include: Peat Bog Finds; Finds from Settlements and Graves; Material and Spinning; Woven Fabrics and their Constructions; Archaeological and Technical Dating of the Fabrics; Fabrics and Looms; Tablet-Weaving; Braided Works; Needle and Sewing; Garments; Stuff and Shape; Cultural Relationship of Parallelism; and a Postscript. Full of all sorts of excellent diagrams and photos showing stitches and weaves/patterns. Quite a full resource and reference. Kaj Birket-Smith's booklet contains his critical (in both senses) commentary of Hald's work, in Danish, with a summary in English. He seems to take exception primarily with the ethnological portions of Hald's work, not so much its scientific and archaeological value.
