Issued in conjunction with several 2007 exhibitions of student art inspired by Colonial Mexican artifacts. 61 University students were given the chance to examine pieces and to create their own decorative art objects from it. "The challenge was to develop a work of art that offered his or her unique interpretation of a specific colonial artifact. Students studied the works at the Museum, pored through books and catalogues, examined the history of the colonization of Latin America and were enthralled with Miguel Angel's lecture on Mexico Barroco. They worked long and hard on their project, returning during their winter break to bring their work to successful conclusion. Across the board, our students extended beyond their previous capacities to create Misterios: an extraordinary evocation of the creative impulse and the profound enigma of art." (intro).
