Item #150336

The American Civil War was just a year in progress when this book first appeared. Alfred Ely (1815-1892) was a Republican Congressman from New York. In July 1861, he witnessed the Battle of Bull Run in Virginia, was captured, and was kept in Libby Prison in Richmond for almost six months, along with many others. Upon his release, the journal he had kept in prison also came to light. Ely went on to continue his political and lengthy law career. Please note that this is an original publication and is not an e-book, new paperback, or print-on-demand copy. It needs some help physically, but it still tells an important story.
