Text in French. Includes a foreword, introduction, title essay, the catalogue, bibliography, and index of artists. Each work well-annotated, and with rich, beautiful plates. The catalogue to accompany the exhibition held at Musee d'Ixelles, Bruxelles (Brussels) from October to December, 1999. This was the first of 11 museums in 7 countries to have this exhibition between 1999 and 2004, and it was mounted again in 2006 in Tampere, Finland. The exhibition evolved with each new location with some changes to the repertoire of paintings, works on paper, and sculptures shown. It was a sort of constantly-evolving exhibition shaped gradually to present different works and the latest research and discoveries to different audiences. "The Painters of the Soul: The Symbolist Ideal in France" was coordinated independently and outside of normal French institutional structures, thanks to the Museum of Ixelles in Brussels and the freedom given to develop the project and catalogue, begining in 1997.
