From the introduction: Some seven months after his death, a sale of the fifth Duc d'Aumont's collection took place at the magnificent town house he rented on the Place Louis XV. The architectural interest and conspicuous location of the building, the aristocratic celebrity of its late tenant, as well as the exotic novelty of much of the collection, consisting almost entirely of what is now called decorative arts, accounted for the sensation aroused among a wide spectrum of Parisian society by this event. From an edition of 520 copies, of which 500 numbered copies were for sale. {Acanthus Reprint Series of Historical Auction Catalogues, France: Volume I).
