From the foreword: As a collector of paintings and sculpture, La Live de Jully's desire to assemble a collection of works by contemporary French painters amounted to nothing less than the creation of a museum of modern art. Colin Bailey adjusts the focus on La Live de Jully in his essay that accompanies this republication of the great man's Catalogue Historique and of the 1770 sale catalogue that marked the dispersal of his collection and the end of his dream. (Acanthus Reprint Series of Historical Auction Catalogues, France: Volume II). From an edition of 520 copies, of which 500 numbered copies were for sale. This copy is not numbered. Although not stated, it is from the personal library of the series author, Edgar Munhall. Text mainly in French with Introduction in English.
