Issued in conjunction with a 1978 exhibition of artwork by American modernist Beauford Delaney (1901-1979). An in-depth exhibition that provides scholarship of this expatriate African American artist, who, at the time of this retrospective, was a guest at a French insane asylum, oblivious to what was going on around him. With essays by James Baldwin, Richard A. Long, and Joseph Delaney, the artist's brother. Also includes a reprint of Henry Miller's 1945 essay, "The Amazing and Invariable Beauford Delaney. The exhibition checklist cites 67 pieces, and most if not all are pictured here. Includes a chronology and a selected bibliography.
