The American expatriate Whistler was at the forefront of the etching revival in the mid-19th century. This exhibition is drawn entirely from the Zelman's collection; the preface profiles them and their collection (about one-third of his etchings). The text is by Ruth Fine; includes a 3-page chronology, an introduction with 60 notes, an annotated bibliography, and an index. The catalogue of 90 etchings includes many details, annotation, provenance, literature, the etching, and related illustrations. A substantial book with many reproductions on nice paper. Published to accompany the exhibition, which began in Los Angeles June 20 to Sept. 27, 1984, four other locations.
