Painting, It's Rise and Progress From The Earliest Times to The Present Time

Boston: John P. Jewett & Co., 1846. Hardcover. Boards. x, 428 pp. Spine chipped and weak, but mostly still there. Item #5349

Chapter 27 of this title is devoted to American painters Copley, C.W. Peale, G. Stuart, J. Trumbull, E.G. Malbone, Allston and Henry Inman. Chapter 33 describes the collections of 33 public art galleries in Europe. Although it states "Compiled From The Best Authorities", Orville Roorbach in Bibliotheca Americana identifies the author. (Schimmelman, who locates 23 copies.) A very nice copy, except for the missing spine. This copy from the library of Bartlett Cowdrey.
