Max Ernst Collages: The Invention of The Surrealist Universe
NY: Harry N. Abrams, 1991. Hardcover. Black cloth. 540 pp. 114 color, 733 bw plates. VG+. Item #4057
Although it might be stretching it to refer to Max Ernst as an American artist, he did live here from 1941 to 1949, and did marry two Americans. Anyway, this large volume examines, in great detail, the collage style of this artist. The materials used and where they came from are detailed. A slendid selection of plates, followed by a selected bibliography of works and exhibitions, a short biography, a detailed list of illustrations, letters, articles, etc. A terrific book on Ernst, Collage and/or Surrealism. Mint.
