Later Renaissance Architecture In England: A Series of Examples of the Domestic Buildings Erected Subsequent to the Elizabethan Period

London: B. T. Batsford, 1897 onward. Original, in parts. Hardbound. Two volumes in 3/4 light brown leather with marbled boards with five raised and gilt decorated bands. Volume 1: xviii, 12, 64pp, 86 text figures, 1-83 plates, mostly collotype. Volume 2: title-page, 65-116pp, 87-153 text figures, 84-165 plates, mostly collotype. Oversize, heavy and will require extra shipping. VG, some scuffing to small areas of the leather bindings, a tight and fresh set with art library bookplate, small label on base of spine. Item #26971.1

A very nice, very presentable set of this classic. The sub-title calls for 170 plates. Index and sequential plate numbering end at 165; there are 6 "extra" plates, as follows: 15*, 70*, 122*, 132*, 137* and a duplicate plate numbered 152 (two different plates being numbered 152). All plate numbers are in Roman Numerals. I don't believe all the pages and plates are in their original portfolios, but all pages of text are here, along with two title pages dated 1901 (in case the subscriber wished to have the pages bound into 2 volumes, as it was later issued in.) Actually quite nice to have in portfolio form due to the large size of the pages and plates (14.2" x 19.1") and the weight. Postage will be significant on this set.
