Introduction by Bement. Preface states that about one-fifth of the pictures in this collection are by American artists, and that the European pictures represent the finest output of the studios of Europe. Shows three exterior views of the Philadelphia house and six interior views. Also has six exterior views of the Bay View Cottage on the shores of Lake George (summer residence). These are followed by 12 plates illustrating decorative works and small sculptures in the Philadelphia residence. Next come over 130 annotated illustrations of the paintings, including works by the American artists Martin Johnson Heade, Herman Herzog (4), William Stanley Haseltine, George Boughton, William Trost Richards (3), James Hamilton, R.S. Dunning (2 still lifes), Milne Ramsey, Albert Biewrstadt, Thomas Hill, A.F. Bunner, Albert F. Bellows, Hugh Bolton Jones, J.G. Brown, Edward Moran, Edwin Lord Weeks. Also has works by Bouguereau, J. Vibert, Pierre A. Cot, Troyon, Leon Perrault, G. Boldini. Paul Viry, Edward H. May, and German artists of the Munich school and Old Masters. These are followed by an illustration of Sagamore House on Lake George (in which Bement had an interest) and an illustration of the industrial works which presumably paid for all this. Finely bound with unfortunate drying and defects, this copy ionscribed by the owner on the rear free endpaper.
