Text in German and English. Catalog for exhibition held at Ulmer Museum from April 27 to June 15 1997. "Our retrospective exhibition, the first of its kind to be presented in a museum since the artist's death, is intended to familiarize a wider audience with Copley's work. In addition to paintings from all of the work phases, a survey of his works on paper is being presented for the very first time. While the early photo-and- fabric collages, the colorful gouaches that first appearerd in 1964 and the striking contour drawings deal more or less simultaneously with motifs of painting, they all originated as fully independent works of art. We are very pleased to be able to present not only several particularly important paintings exhibited by the Kestner-Gesellschaft in Hanover two years ago but also a number of significant, previously unpublished owrks of Copley's as well. Thus the connoisseur of Copley's art will have an opportunity to gain new insights into the artist's work." - from dust jacket.
