Leather bound. 3/4 Moroccan leather with green cloth-covered boards, 5 raised-bands, bold gilt title and lettering in the compartments, other compartments have gilt tooling and devices. Top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. xxvii, 183, [1] pages illustrations, 94 heliogravureplates (including frontispiece). Each plate is accompanied by guard sheet with descriptive letterpress. VG+ an extremely fine copy in a slightly worn green board, velvet-lined slipcase. Hard to imagine finding a nicer copy of this. Item #173158

Contents of this luscious and rare volume as follows: Jewels -- Portraits in wax -- Carved woodwork -- Rock-crystal and glass -- Gold and silver plate, ecclesiastical objects not hitherto described -- Various objects made of precious materials -- Precious objects at Prince's Gate. "The whole of the Plates in this book have been engraved by Hallett Hyatt, of 111 Oxford Street, London. All the photographs have been taken by him, and the whole of the hand-coloured facsimiles were painted under his surpevision. The book has been printed at the Chiswick Press. The Index has been prepared by Miss Lillian Mackie." George C. Williamson was an art historian who sometimes advised J. Pierpont Morgan on his purchases. This is one of three catalogues he produced of Morgan's collection.
