Letters from C.R.T.

no place: no publisher, 1913, circa. Hardcover. Blue cloth with gilt title on spine. 173 pp., few bw illustrations. VG. Item #161994

Research indicates strongly that C.R.T. is Clayton R. Truesdale, or Dr. Clayton R. Truesdale from Fremont, Ohio. The letters published in this book were written between Nov. 18, 1911 and June 8, 1912. They were addressed to various relatives and give extensive testimony to his observations throughout Europe and the Middle East during this time period. On page 99, one letter is signed C.R. Truesdale. Further poking around the internet reveals a homeopathic physician in Fremont, Ohio by the name Clayton R. Truesdale. The letters are fascinating and filled with detail. Truesdale did not care for Roosevelt one iota, as made clear in the last letter published, wherein he also says he will tell the recipient many more details when soon he sees them face-to-face. Certainly published in small quantity for private circulation, the book is dedicated to his cousin John R. Packard who it seems, accompanied Truesdale on this trip. Judging from the picture on page 163 in front of Saint Marks feeding pigeons, both men brought along their wives. No copies found. Anywhere.
