Cahiers d'art", no. 1-3, 1937

Cahiers: Paris, 1937. Hardcover. Later cloth boards, lacking original outer wraps. Partially unpaginated, a combination issue. Fair+ some pages with small rips along extremities, soiling from being read, appears complete. Item #161856

The political turmoil of the 1930s is reflected in the inclusion of Eluard's poem "Guernica" and Picasso's "Songe et mensonge de Franco" in a 1937 issue, soon after the bombing of Guernica in April 1937 (and indeed is followed by an article by Zervos on the aesthetic principles of the Third Reich). Begins with an extensive section on Juan Gris, whose name is printed on the covers of the book and along the spine. Although worn, this is a very rare publication, and includes extensive material on Picasso.
