An exquisite copy of the first printing (pre-Sn Francisco earthquake and fire, where the photographic plates were destroyed) of this edition, bound in luxurient full leather with elegantly embossed detail lines around perimeter of covers. A gift or presentation-worthy copy and edition. Though there is no cpublishing date or copyright date, the publication date is derived from the nature of the photographic plates and the copyright dates of those plates, several of which bear the copyright date of 1903. Title-page is also printed on tissue-paper. A very handsome edition and copy. Adelaise Hanscom (Leeson) was an early 20th-century artist and photographer who published some of the first books using photography to illustrate literary works. A wikipedia page details her involvement with this book in great detail. The publication of this book was a very noteworthy event and Hanscom received accolades and awards for this book. This is a true first-edition of her work, and a finer copy not likely to be found.
