Once based primarily on the compilations created by Austrian scholar and artist Johann Adam Bernhard Ritter von Bartsch (1757-1821) in his 21-volume "Le Peintre Graveur." This volume is a supplement to the original series. It showcases the graphic work of Belgian painter and printmaker James Sidney Edouard, Baron Ensor (1860-1949).
