Once based primarily on the compilations created by Austrian scholar and artist Johann Adam Bernhard Ritter von Bartsch (1757-1821) in his 21-volume "Le Peintre Graveur." This volume addresses the work of six Italian engravers: Bartolomeo Passarotti, Domenico Pellegrino called Tibaldi, Camillo Procaccini, Lodovico Carracci, Agostino Carracci, Annibale Carracci.
