Part of a lengthy series of illustrated picture atlases presenting the reproduction of prints rendered by European masters. Once based primarily on the compilations created by Austrian scholar and artist Johann Adam Bernhard Ritter von Bartsch (1757-1821) in his 21-volume "Le Peintre Graveur." This volume addresses the work of 8 Italian engravers from the School of Fontainebleau, as well as that of Croatian engraver Martino Rota (1520-1583) and Venetian painter Jacopo Palma, the Younger (1544-1628).
