At first, based only on British literature; but this edition was updated and revised to include then-current American literary figures and characters. Illustrated by a number of photogravures, etchings, wood engravings, and typogravures, of famous and near-famous depictions of selected said characters. A terrific reference to have at one's fingertips. And this copy is quite nice looking, as well.
