Begins with a history of the craft, followed by a geographical treatment of its appearance in England, France, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Poland, Scandinavia, the Low Countries, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The main portion of text is a dictionary of artists known to have done miniatures, in A-Z order by surname. The last two volumes of the set supply all of the 1200+ illustrations. Only 1000 copies were printed. This set is numbered 512 on the boxes. Uncommon.
