"The luster that silver furniture lent to the chambers of most of Europe's royal courts in the 17th and 18th centuries is largely dimmed today. Various museums, especially old collections in palaces, have preserved single pieces or suites of furniture. Only Rosenborg Palace has what can be called a true collection, one diverse enough to show what the genre had to offer. Most pieces are either part of Rosenborg's own old stock of furniture or were transferred to Rosenborg after the fire at Christiansborg Palace in 1794. They have survived thanks to the creation of the Royal Collections at Rosenborg." (foreword).
