A Historical Sketch of the Wilmington Library and Young Men's Association, with the Constitution, By-Laws, &c., and a List of Officers & Members.

Wilmington: C.P. Johnson, Book & Job Printers, 1858. Original, not a reprint. Softcover. Printed wraps. 32 pp. with no illustrations. Clean and strongly printed. Covers off, spine paper largely missing. Item #156224

Interesting information for research. Lists the officers (including George W. Bush, Second Vice President), names of members (which included women, contrary to the name of the organization), and a page of preliminary remarks by the committee. The historical sketch, 8 pages long, begins in 1787 and continues to 1858, when the membership stood at 450 and the library held 4,500 volumes. 14 pages follow about The Young Men's Association for Mutual Improvement, Acts of Incorporation, Constitution, By-Laws, and Rules, all a very interesting (if not amusing) read. The books in the library are arranged in 4 series of numbers: Folios, quartos, octavos, and duodecimos and listed by author and title, and often by subject.
