Presents findings at archaeological excavations at the ancient settlement of Tocra, now located on the seacoast of Libya. "This volume completes the publication of the British School excavations at the ancient site of Taucheira, on the coast of Cyrenaica. The remainder of the Archaic deposits includes rich finds of Attic and East Greek pottery, as well as other objects, and with the publication complete it is now possible to judge the archaeological evidence for trade and other connections between the Greek homeland and this African colony. This is the richest assemblage of Archaic Greek material from any African site outside Naucratis. The deposits are from a sanctuary of Demeter and Kore, and the continuance of the cult is shown by the finds of Classical and Hellenistic terracottas and an inscription of the Roman period, also published here."
