Each volume housed in cream board folio with white threads woven onto boards. White cloth title label with black Japanese calligraphy. Contents VG/NF; covers have a bit of age darkening/soiling and wear to edges. Bumps to corners. Bindings tight. One slide closure broken on Volume I; both on Volume II. Item #154584
All text in Japanese. The Japanese painter and Zen priest Toyo Sesshu (1420-1506) is generally regarded as Japan's greatest painter. His Zen-inspired paintings are credited with establishing a truly Japanese style of ink painting which had a great influence on all later Japanese painting. The paintings in these folios include landscaped, wildlife, monks, and other important aspects inspired by Zen Buddhism. Beautiful. Scarce with both volumes together.
