Catalogue of the Chicago Fine Art Gallery

Chicago: Chicago Fine Art Gallery, 1863. Original. Softcover. Pink paper wraps with black lettering and decoration. 8 pp. with no illustrations. Good. Very clean/tight contents but with fading to cover edges, art museum ex-lib. stamp/sticker on back cover, and the entire booklet folded in half vertically. Item #153786

Quite rare, as this copy pre-dates and survived the Chicago fire of 1871. The cover title is: "Chicago Fine Art Gallery, Kingsbury Block, Randolph Street, Chicago, Connected with the Chicago Museum. Catalogue of Foreign and American Paintings and Statuary. Open Day and evening from 8 AM to 10 PM. Catalogue Ten Cents. Chicago: Kennedy & Campbell, Printers, Board Trade Building, 1863." The catalogue lists 101 paintings and 2 sculptures by both American and European artists. One entry ("Winona") includes a synopsis of the legend connected with the picture, and three others include texts of poetry. With a most charming and eloquently-written Introduction about the gallery and museum and their mission.
