Weighs 5 pounds and may require extra postage. Contents good and clean but for faint age toning to some page fore edges. Art museum ex-lib. copy with ink stamps on reverse of each plate but no bleed-through/visibility on plate face. Museum bookplate (very pretty!), title page perforation stamp, pocket, and a small sticker from the original book shop in London where this volume was purchased. First signature of one folded leaf (3 blank sides + colophon) detached but laid in. Covers were detached (as one piece) from spine, but that has been re-glued an d seems stable. A bit of rubbing to the cloth. Item #153738

Volume I only of a 2-volume set on the history of Chinese painting. This volume covers the period from the Han to early Sung dynasties. Includes a dedication to the Crown Prince of Sweden, H.R.H. Gustav Adolf. With a preface, an introduction (Remarks about Painting and Calligraphy), bibliography, and list of illustrations, all before the main text. Indices for both volumes appear at the end of VOLUME 2. The chapters, each with sub-sections, include The Han Period; The Period of the Three Kingdoms and the Six Dynasties; The Transition Period; The Early T'ang Period; The Middle T'ang Period; The Late T'ang and Five Dynasties Period; and Landscape Painters of the Five Dynasties and the Early Sung Period. Very comprehensive.
