Catalogue from the opening exhibit at Tolerton's new gallery in San Francisco, October 1916. Hill Tolerton was one of the main print experts in the US at the time and had relocated to San Francisco from Chicago in 1913. This catalogue includes listings of 191 engravings and etchings, a catalogue of paintings, and separate sections (biographies and catalogues) on Leon Bakst (by Martin Birnbaum) and Paul Manship. The color plate is A Tartar by Bakst. With biographical material of varying length on many of the artists and particularly extensive annotations on Anders Zorn and J.A.M. Whistler. A poem by Charles Keeler is included, as well as a bw photo of the print rooms.
