Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra League, 1998. Softcover. Maroon & white & color illus. wraps, 104 pp., color & BW illus. VG- (Slight foxing on outer edges of outermost pages.). Item #151620

The program from the orchestra's league "Showhouse" fundraising event, which featured rare tours of the property known as Knollward in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Knollward descends from mail-order entrepreneur Aaron Montgomery Ward (1844-1913), whose adopted daughter and only heir was Marjorie Montgomery Ward Baker (1844-1959). Marjorie began creating the unique mansion and grounds in 1926. Since her death, the property has gone through various owners and purposes. According to our best information at the time of this writing (Fall 2015), the current owners are the ones who collaborated with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra for these tours in 1998; but the place has been up for sale for years. This program contains articles about its people and its history and has nice color photos of interiors, exteriors, and the gardens. Unless you want to call a real estate agent, this may be the only way to see Knollward for yourself. This copy has slight foxing on outermost pages, but the text and illustrations remain unaffected. An unusual and potentially historic item.
