"This book tells the story of 22 Arlington Street, the great town house designed for Henry Pelham by William Kent in the 1740s. Unlike other London mansions, so many of which have been replaced by office blocks or hotels, William Kent House (it now bears the name of its architect) stands refurbished and restored, closer to its condition in Pelham's day than at any time since the 18th century. Much of the original scheme survives: the Great Room and other ceilings, the staircase, the front facade. This has set the style for the restoration and the house is now a monument to Kent's genius."
