A massive tome, decades in the making. Paul Singer originally compiled much of this information for museum exhibitions in the 1970s that never quite happened. Then collector and donor Arthur M. Sackler (1913-1987) passed away just before the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery at the Smithsonian opened in the late 1980s. Here it is, finally. The main catalogue documents 868 individual items with annotations and illustrations. Wonderful work, terrific information and views.
