Issued in conjunction with a 1979 exhibition of these 41 Mughal and Deccani paintings. With an introduction by Michael Goedhuis, and an annotated and illustrated catalog by Toby Falk and Simon Digby. "The paintings are of particularly fine quality and together represent the evolution of the Mughal style under successive emperors, from the rich powerful compositions under Akbar -- the first Great Mughal -- to the exquisite subtle miniatures commissioned by Shah Jahan, who also built the Taj Mahal, and finally the variety of idioms that grew out of the dismantling of the Empire during the 18th century."
