The Descendants of Thomas Durfee, of Portsmouth, R.I. Volumes 1+ 2 COMPLETE

Washington, DC: Press of Gibson Brothers, 1902. Hardbound. 3/4 leather and brown cloth boards. Vol. 1: 591 pp and 20 bw plates. Vol. 2: 668 pp., 32 pp of bw illustrations (according to the prospectus, which included here). Fair. Vol. 1 needs restoration to the spine, which is off at the front hinge. Volume 2 better, but with a rip to the top of the spine that needs mending. Item #148841

Not the best set, but very acceptable given the alternative of P.O.D. (print-on-demand), which this is NOT. Volume 1 begins with a chapter on the origin of the Durfee famnily name and includes a description of the coat of arms. This is followed by the genealogical and historical record of Thomas Durfee and his posterity from 1643, until after the period of the Revolution, including the records of allied families, to 1902. The 2nd volume brings the the record and history of the children of the 5th generation up to date (they were introduced in Volume 1, which is not here). Certainly of a small and limited edition. At the end of Volume 2, reference is made to the possibility of a third volume, if sufficient information was forthcoming to make it worthwhile, but it seems that it was never printed.

Price: $375.00
