Text in Russian with English summary at end of Part 2. Titles of catalogue items also are in English. Catalogue from the exhibition of September 2013 to January 2014 featuring historical items from the coronation history of Russia and timed to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty to the Russian throne. Part 1 contains embroidered robes and towels, jewel-encrusted textiles, gold everything (cups, chalices, plates, reliquaries, crosses), mitres, letters and charters, niello and bas-reliefs and crowns (don't forget the crowns!), and paintings and all sorts of gleaming, intricate wonders, including liturgical/clerical pieces, as the religious services were an important part of the coronation celebrations. The golden, gem-coated orb from Istanbul (1600s), belonging to Tsar Aleksei Mikhailovich is worth the price just to peek at the picture once a day and to be amazed that someone could make something so beautiful. Part 2 contains some of the same kinds of things as Part 1, with the addition of ephemeral memorabilia, more paintings, bw drawings, porcelain wares, mantles, table decorations, hand fans, gloves and more. Part 2 contains more text and more clothing, likely because these items are more recent. Two absolutely stunning catalogues to be enjoyed, even if you don't understand Russian.
