This catalogue is the first exhibition of this artist's photographs. Lux Feininger was born in Berlin, spending his early years in Germany. He studied Art at the Bauhaus under Oskar Schlemmer, László Moholy Nagy and others but was unable to study photography there - as it was not taught until 1929. But he practised the subject, working for the Berlin photo agency DEPHOT in 1927. He took part in the groundbreaking "Film und Foto Stuttgart 1929" exhibition . In 1937 Feininger moved to New York leaving behind the majority of his negatives which he never recovered. He later taught at Harvard, and then the School of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
