The 29 Renaissance pieces herein are executed in richly carved walnut and include elaborate cassoni, massive center tables, intricate cabinets and elegant side chairs. The later 101 French works include pieces for Marie-Antoinette by Lacroix and all manner of other elaborate furnishings. Among the gilt bronzes are lavishly mounted dark blue Chinese porcelains, allegorical clock cases, candelabra and much more. Biographies of known craftsmen are included, along with any signatures, dates of manufacture, materials, dimensions, marks, provenance and notes. With the most exhaustive construction and condition reports ever published. Both volumes comprise over 400 plates, 30 in color.
