The work was compiled by Charles Mareau-Vauthier, a French painter and writer. The volume contains a broad selection of 60 portraits by the Grand Masters, including Constable, Tiepolo, Rembrandt, Whistler, and many others. The title page itself is a work of art in the Art Nouveau style. In-depth discourses are offered on each plate, in French. A lovely study of traditional European art.
