Hardcover. vi + 20 pp. 65 color plates (chromolithographs, many heightened with gilt), and 7 bw plates, as issued (plates are not all consecutively numbered, but they match the printed list of plates). Unbound contents in green cloth folio case with red and gilt Imperial Seal of Japan design on front. good- (ex-library with bookplate and call number. ink stamps have been applied to all plates on back and twice on front. a perforation stamp appears on title page, series 7 plate 9, and on all bw plates. case is quite worn. the spine has been reenforced with cloth tape on the inside and clear tape on the outside, and top and bottom edges of the case box aren't staying square--they were attached at sine and rear cover but the joint on the spine is torn. plates have been handled and show some light foxing/smudging to page margins, but paper is not chipping. text page binding glue has not held. paper cover for text booklet is split along spine). Fantastic plates. The book reflects the influence of Japonisme as Audsley presents Japanese art, design, and ornament to Western audiences.
