A tight, clean copy in it's original cloth. The last 36 pages are consumed with Washington's Farewell Address. Prior to this a lengthy description of the re-encasement of the hero's body into a marble sarcophagus. There are two lithographs of the sarcophagus (top and side views), one lithograph of a silver shield placed inside the sarcophagus, and one lithograph of Washington's new tomb. W. Strickland created the drawings and A. Newsam put them on stone, while they were printed by P.S. Duval in Philadelphia. William Strickland designed and John Struthers carved and donated the Pennsylvania marble sarcophagus in which General Washington was interred. The text reproduces the correspondence between Major Lawrence Lewis, who was Washington’s only surviving executor, and John Struthers and describes in detail the tomb and sarcophagus. While present in a fair number of libraries, this book is most uncommon on the market, especially in it's original cloth.
